Department of History of Art
Emma Sharples is a PhD candidate in the Department of History of Art at the University of Cambridge. She is supervised by Professor Alyce Mahon, and is funded by AHRC as part of the Collaborative Doctoral Award scheme. Her project is collaborative with Tate, where she is supervised by Sally Noall (Curator, Interpretation, Tate St Ives), and focuses on the archive of British artist and occultist Ithell Colquhoun (1906-1988).
Emma obtained her BA in History of Art from the University of Cambridge. She completed an MA in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art in 2018, supervised by Dr Sarah Victoria Turner and funded by a Courtauld Scholarship. Her research interests include Surrealism and visual culture in Britain 1890-1970, enchanted modernities, occulture and archives.
