About
While Peter Paul Rubens is traditionally considered a quintessentially European artist in the classical tradition, recent work has begun to consider his art, life and legacy from a more global perspective. Responding to the ‘global turn’ in early modern studies, the panellists will discuss new approaches to Rubens, his formation, and his reception, with reference to their work on colonial Latin America, the encounter between Christianity and Islam, international exchange, and materiality.
