Biography:
Dr. Dootson is the Henry Sidgwick fellow at Newnham College. Her research considers how materials and technologies have critically shaped visual culture from the Victorian era to the present, with a particular interest in British and American art and film. Her current book project examines how new ways of making colour transformed the meaning of colour in modern Britain, from the development of synthetic textile dyes in the 1850s to the arrival of colour television in the 1960s. She is also collaborating on a history of Technicolor cinema in China.
