Research Interests

Currently, Alex is researching the lesser known country house commissions of AWN Pugin, specifically is conversion work and his professional relationship with JG Crace. Such commissions may hold the potential to challenge traditional views of Pugin's adherence to his own True Principles. This work builds upon his undergraduate dissertation which focused upon one such commission, Chirk Castle in North Wales.

More broadly, Alex is interested in British country house architecture from the eighteenth century up until the 1930s, especially conversion work, and the philosophical and moral ideas that underpin domestic architecture in this period.
