Department of History of Art

Supported by the School of Arts and Humanities and aligned with its aim to further expand its areas of teaching and research, the Department of History of Art has established Global Humanities Visiting Professorships in three areas in the field (Islamic, African, and East Asian art and architecture). This academic year, the Department welcomed Mariam Rosser Owen (Curator of the Arab world collections, V&A), Clémentine Deliss (Associate Curator, KW Institute for Contemporary Art), and Lianming Wang (Assistant Professor, Heidelberg University) as the inaugural visiting professors.

During their two-week residency the visiting academics will contribute lectures across the Tripos and run seminars for graduates and undergraduates. They will also select objects from the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, and the University Library to illuminate under-studied material from the collections. The professors will contribute to the interdisciplinary community and research strategies of the Cambridge Visual Culture (CVC). The visiting professors will also work with museum staff to engage new audiences, showcase more diverse material and create more inclusive narratives.
