James Hillson (University of York)

The University of Cambridge Senior Seminar in Medieval Art meets every other week during full term, attracting an impressive range of speakers from home and abroad.

The seminars usually take place place on Mondays or Tuesdays at 5.30pm in the Seminar Room of the Graduate Centre at 4A Trumpington Street. Seminars series are organised around a given theme and bring together students and senior scholars with interests in the visual and material culture of the Middle Ages from across the University and beyond.

2014 marks the 35th anniversary of Jean Bony’s "The English Decorated Style: Gothic Architecture Transformed" (Ithaca, 1979) as well as the 20th anniversary of the publication of Nicola Coldstream's "The Decorated Style: Architecture and Ornament, 1240-1360" (London, 1994), and so the seminar series in 2013-14 will revisit the subject of English architectural style between the mid-thirteenth and mid-fourteenth centuries. During the Lent Term the seminars take place fortnightly on Tuesdays in the Graduate Centre, 4A Trumpington Street. The presentations start at 5.30pm and are followed by discussion and refreshments. Everyone is most welcome to attend.
